Governor Cuomo backs Child Safe Products Act in State of the State Book

JustGreen Partnership Praises Cuomo’s Support for Protecting Children’s Health, Calls for Swift Legislative Action

The JustGreen Partnership issued the following statement in response to Governor Cuomo’s 2015 Opportunity Agenda:

“The JustGreen Partnership commends Governor Cuomo for including a call to protect children’s health from toxic chemicals in his Opportunity Agenda by supporting the Child Safe Products Act. It comes on the heels of Albany County’s groundbreaking Toxic-Free Toys Act, which bans seven toxic chemicals in children’s products. The JustGreen Partnership urges the Legislature to act swiftly to safeguard all of New York’s children from hazards that could be posed by a beloved toy, article of clothing, or piece of jewelry. Doing so will help give all our children a better opportunity to grow up healthy. It will give businesses the opportunity to offer the safer products consumers demand.”

“We know many dangerous chemicals are used in kids’ products, but we also know they can be made with safer materials. It is simply common sense to ensure items meant for young people, who are particularly vulnerable, do not contribute to cancer, learning and developmental disabilities, asthma, early puberty, obesity, diabetes, or future reproductive challenges.”

“Enacting the Child Safe Products Act doesn’t just help our children’s health, it also creates opportunities for innovation and business growth. It strongly supports the growing demand for products made with safer chemicals and the businesses who meet that demand. We look forward to working with the Governor and the New York State Legislature to make these protections a reality.”
